To deliver on a Green Spaces Master Plan, interconnected exterior gardens and interior “winter gardens” provide year-round access to nature and respite from the clinical environment. Inspired by redwood trees that once graced the site, the winter gardens feature magical play structures and custom reclaimed wood benches. The winter gardens also provide a safe and healing reprieve of greenspace for patients, including the immunocompromised, their families, and staff, regardless of the weather in our New England climate.
An extensive and integrated artwork approach involving over 20 artists and art groups, created a cohesive design theme from “ground to sky.” Cohesive color palettes and artwork selections, including 40-foot interactive wall art installations illustrate the ground to sky theme and help users intuitively navigate the building. User participation is integral to elevating pediatric care design. Over 400 clinicians, family members, and patients were engaged in integrated design stages to create a comforting clinical environment focused on safety, quality, and efficiency of care.
Inpatient rooms feature a designated family zone with room for caregivers and visitors.
