Superimpose designed an exclusive members club for a wine enthusiast in Beijing. The project is situated at the top floor of a high-end tower development. The project has a modern appearance with a warm atmosphere, which is achieved by applying zirconium gold stainless steel panels with a hairline finish throughout the entire interior. The space is divided by a gold 'central element' creating two distinctive worlds: the client's office and the private members club. Visitors enter the exclusive members club through a hidden steel pivot-door.
The space instantly offers spectacular views over Beijing. The 'central element' subtly reflects the skyline and naturally forms a feature backdrop to the members club. The shadow gaps in between the stainless steel panels create rhythm throughout the space and are designed as hidden cabinet handles to the storage space behind. The walls perpendicular to the facade are covered with soft felt to generate contrast with the stainless steel world. Metal liners enhancing the high-end character of the interior subdivide the felt panels.
The Sky Cellar is designed as a reinterpretation of the traditional wine cellar. Members enter the hidden cellar through the automated mirrored glass sliding doors. During daytime, the mirrored glass doors hide the Sky Cellar, reflect the skyline and protect the wines from direct sunlight. Rose gold stainless steel is used for the wine shelves to continue the language of the 'Central Element'. Inside the wine cellar, the mirrored glass allows members to admire both the wine and skyline. During evening hours, the wine cellar illuminates and reveals the cellar to the outside.
An abstract representation of the six wine regions is installed underneath the glass floor of the cellar. Diatom mud is used for the topography and zirconium gold stainless steel to highlight the river and to indicate the wine chateaus.
